Wangolina Syrah 2022 - The Originals
Planted in 1999, the Syrah is one of the original plantings at Wangolina. The 2022 vintage was a classic cool-climate reference with slightly later picking times, allowing slow ripening conditions with enough warmth & sufficiently dry conditions for our later-ripening red varieties to thrive. We've observed some beautiful quality of colour & natural acidity come into the winery, resulting in wines we look forward to sharing with you!
The Originals Syrah was handpicked, 55% whole bunch fermented and then hand plunged for colour and tannin extraction. Gentle pressing nurtures the elegance and aromatics of this wine before time in seasoned oak.
2022 Originals Syrah is youthful & vibrant of fresh summer mulberries, violet florals & a fine thread of white pepper. The palate has a bit more 'plump' & flesh than the 2021, expressing a style that is bright, textural and primary of summer berry coulis. Some natural acidity lift on the finish lingers with fine, peppery, fruit-derived tannins and even a note of chalky limestone and coastal minerality. It's a wine we feel portrays our unique climate incredibly well.
